How It Works

Using our online interactive app, every Tomer Devorah student can choose from thousands of possible schedule combinations to create the year that is best for YOU!

Filling in your seminary schedule is easy and exciting, so let’s get started using the instructions below!

Using the App

On your screen, you will have a blank schedule in front of you. White boxes are  free periods. The green boxes that have already been filled in are mandatory classes which the entire school will take at those times.

To choose your classes, click on a time-slot and select a course.

Each course has additional information which is important to read before making a selection. You can click “view info” to see a course description. To learn more about any of the classes, you can also refer to the Courses  page.

You will only be able to submit your schedule if you fulfill certain requirements. Pay careful attention to the “counters” at the right side of the page! They are there in order to help you keep track of your requirements and hours.

All students are required to fulfill:

A minimum of 40 Weekly Class Hours Total

  • Halacha/Tanach Dept – 20 Hours/Week Minimum
  • Hashkafa Dept – 6 Hours/Week Minimum
  • Mechanechet – 1 Mechanechet meeting
  • Night classes Dept – 6 hours/week Minimum
  • Chessed – 2 hours/Week Minimum
  • all additional hours in any department

As you are filling in your schedule, the counters at the side will update to show you how many hours you still need in each department.

If you would like to know about the options available to you in each department, see the courses page and choose a department to view all the courses it includes.

Core courses

Certain classes are CORE COURSES, meaning that you must take that class (in some form) throughout the week.  Many of the core classes have been pre-filled in electronically.

A few of the Core Courses such as Sefer Tomer Devorah or Mechanechet meetings are offered more than once per week allowing you the flexibility of creating your schedule around them.

If you would like to know if a class fulfills a CORE requirement, you can click on a time slot, and click on the “view info” button next to the class name.

Elective courses

In contrast, ELECTIVE COURSES are all the other time slots throughout the week that will make up the bulk of your schedule.

You have dozens of courses to choose from, giving you the opportunity to focus your learning on what is going to help YOU maximize your year. Keep an eye on the counters at the side of the page and fill your week with Torah!

SOME ADVICE! We recommend that you first select from the core classes and then choose electives afterwards.

NOTE:
Some classes appear on the app (on Sunday at 8:30am) as “Independent Study.” They do not belong to a particular time slot. They can be worked on at any time.

Mechanechet Meeting (Mechanechet Dept)

There are various slots in the morning hours open to scheduling a mechanechet meeting. After choosing your morning classes, you can see where you have an open slot for your weekly meeting with your mechanechet. Note: these slots are not final and are subject to change based on the teacher’s availability.

Once you are finished choosing your core courses, check the department counters to see which departments you need to focus on to fill requirements.

At this point you’ll be ready to fill your schedule with electives and choose the classes that appeal to you most! Keep in mind that the first few weeks of school will be a trial period for you to test out this schedule, and your Menahelet, Mrs. Rivka Lichtman, will be available to help you adjust your schedule to make sure it works best for you within the school’s requirements.

Matmidot Program

In addition, you also have the opportunity to qualify for the Matmidot Program if you fulfill the following requirements:

  • At least 43 Weekly Class Hours
  • 7 hours of Matmidot qualifying classes. Matmidot qualifying classes are a selection of more challenging classes, indicated with a ‘M’ next to the class name.
  • An additional 2 Halacha/Tanach department classes

Benefits of the Matmidot program:

  • 4% added to your GPA on your transcript
  • Special programming and events for Matmidot only
  • Weekly invitation to exclusive Matmidot Breakfast
  • Access to Matmidot Exclusive classes
